I have a four year old pc and want to buy a flat pannel monitor for it, but I also want to know if I can connect cable or dvd player to it. Which monitor models, (or tv models) I should consider in a tight budget?

I've been looking for the same thing to use in my car, so I can hook up a PS2 to it in the car. But for a screen about 10" big that takes several types of signals, like both computer and tv will run you about $300-500, from what I've seen in my intense internet searches (and I wasn't going to spend that much!).

the newer ones and the ones with an HD input
Well, first things first, most modern computers can play DVDs and some can act as a cable box as well. See if yours can. If not, make sure the monitor/tv has:
-A DVI or VGA input (for your computer)
-Whatever type of inputs you need for your TV stuff- the most common is called Composite Video
Also, make sure that either the screen you get has speakers, or you can connect your TV stuff to your computer speakers.
